"Pressure doesn’t create character. It reveals it." |
Re-post from Newsletter published February 13, 2026
There’s something special about this time of year in CrossFit gyms all over the world. The whiteboard fills up a little faster (Just not this past week... Where have you all been!?) People linger a little longer after class. There’s a quiet question floating in the room: "Are you doing the Open?" In two weeks, it begins. Three workouts. Three weeks. One shared experience. But if you’ve been around CrossFit Fairfield for any amount of time, you know — it’s never just about the workouts. It’s about what happens around them. It’s about Friday Night Lights. It’s about standing next to someone you train with every week and watching them discover something about themselves. It’s about a little healthy pressure in a room full of people who want you to win. The training we do everyday builds capacity, but competition reveals character. And when it happens inside a healthy community, it builds confidence that carries far beyond the gym floor. Introducing The Intramural OpenWe’re introducing a new, soon-to-be favorite tradition — the Intramural Open. That means you won’t just be competing as an individual. You’ll be on a team. And every single person matters. Not just the Rx athletes. Not just the fastest finishers. Not just the veterans. Everyone. Whether you like it or not! Your team will earn points throughout the three weeks by: • Completing the Open workout• Being a judge for another athlete• Dressing to match the weekly theme• Posting on social media and tagging the gym• Attending classes during the week Read that again. You don’t earn points by winning. You earn points by showing up. By supporting someone else. By leaning into the experience. That’s intentional. Because what we’re building here has never been about a leaderboard. It’s about Community. It’s about Health. It’s about Empowerment.Yes, we're borrowing those values from Cornerstone, btw. The Open doesn’t change those values. It amplifies them. Friday Night Lights ThemesWe’re going all in. February 27 – Superhero NightCapes optional. Effort mandatory. March 6 – Western / Cowboy NightDenim. Boots. Grit. March 13 – 80s NightNeon. Headbands. Questionable dance moves. These nights are going to be loud. They’re going to be fun. They will be a little chaotic in the best way. And they will become the stories we tell for the rest of the year. Why Register?Because the Open isn’t about proving you’re the fittest. It’s about proving you’re willing. Willing to: Show up. Put a score next to your name. Try something that stretches you. Learn about where you are. And keep going anyway. We believe in training for decades. But, we also believe The Open is an excellent checkpoint — a moment to measure, reflect, and recommit to the long game. If competition excites you, jump in. If it intimidates you, that might be the reason to do it. Or maybe your role this year is to judge, cheer, and bring the energy. Either way — you’re part of it. Registration is live at: www.games.crossfit.com Select CrossFit Fairfield. Team assignments and more details coming soon. Three weeks. All in. Let’s do hard things — together. |
